Getting Crisp, High-Quality DTF Prints: File & Logo Tips That Matter

Getting Crisp, High-Quality DTF Prints: File & Logo Tips That Matter

SKS Design Studio’s guide to clean files, bold prints, and zero surprises

DTF printing is kind of our thing at SKS Design Studio—and we want your order to come out looking 🔥 every single time. The secret? It all starts with your artwork.

If you want vibrant color, crisp lines, and prints that actually last, follow these simple (but important) tips when submitting your logo or design.

1. High-Resolution = High-Quality Prints

Let’s keep it real: blurry in = blurry out.

For the best DTF results:

  • ✔️ 300 DPI at actual print size
  • ✔️ Original artwork (not screenshots or downloaded images)
  • ✔️ Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) when possible

If it looks fuzzy on your screen, it’s not going to magically fix itself on a shirt.

2. Transparent Backgrounds ONLY

This one’s a biggie.

Your file should have:

  • ✔️ Fully transparent background
  • ❌ No white boxes
  • ❌ No drop shadows or “almost erased” edges

Whatever is in your file will print. Yes… even that random white rectangle 😅

3. Use the Right File Type

Save yourself (and us) time by sending the right format from the start:

  • 🥇 PNG (preferred) – best for DTF + transparency
  • 👍 PDF – great for clean, scalable artwork
  • 🛠 AI / PSD – perfect if edits are needed

4. Bold Colors Win Every Time

DTF loves color—but contrast is everything.

  • ✔️ Use solid, vibrant colors
  • ✔️ Design with your garment color in mind
  • ❌ Avoid super subtle gradients or ultra-thin lines

Printing on dark apparel? Go lighter and brighter so your design pops.

5. Size Matters (Yep, It Does)

Set your file to the actual size you want printed.

  • Typical full front: 10–12 inches wide
  • Left chest: 3–4 inches wide

Scaling up later = quality loss. Let’s not do that.

6. Don’t Lose the Details

Tiny details don’t always survive the DTF process.

  • ✔️ Minimum line thickness: 1–1.5 pt
  • ✔️ Keep text readable at full size
  • ❌ No microscopic elements

If you have to zoom way in to see it… it probably won’t print well.

7. Clean Files = Faster Turnaround

Before uploading:

  • ✔️ Remove hidden layers
  • ✔️ Flatten artwork if needed
  • ✔️ Convert fonts to outlines

Cleaner files mean fewer delays and smoother production.
